What is the silver rate today?

The silver rate today is the international XAG/USD spot price — the market price for one troy ounce of pure (.999 fine) silver quoted in US dollars on the global wholesale market. Every local silver price worldwide is derived from this number: it is converted to the local currency at the live exchange rate, then divided down to retail units (gram, tola, kilogram). Goldify Pro updates the silver spot price every 60 seconds.

Silver price per gram, tola and kilogram

To convert the silver spot price to smaller units: divide the per-ounce price by 31.1035 to get the price per gram, multiply the per-gram price by 11.664 for the price per tola, or by 1,000 for the price per kilogram. These are the exact weight constants — the same ones used for gold. Silver is far cheaper per gram than gold, which is why it is usually quoted per kilogram for bullion and per tola for South Asian retail (where it is known as chandi). A 1 kg silver bar, a 1 oz silver coin, or a gram of silver are all priced from this same spot value plus a dealer premium — so the kilo of silver price and the price of silver per gram move together in every market, from Canada and Australia to Pakistan, India and Nepal.

The gold-to-silver ratio explained

The gold-to-silver ratio is the gold spot price divided by the silver spot price — how many ounces of silver it takes to buy one ounce of gold. Investors watch it to judge whether silver is cheap or expensive relative to gold. Historically the ratio has averaged around 47:1; it has ranged from roughly 15:1 to over 100:1. Goldify Pro calculates it live from the XAU/USD and XAG/USD spot prices — see the dedicated gold-silver ratio page for the live reading, a 50-year chart and the record highs and lows. For sterling and scrap silver values, use the 925 sterling silver calculator.

Silver rate in Pakistan & India today (chandi rate)

In Pakistan and India, silver is called chandi, and the silver rate today is quoted per tola and per kilogram in local currency. The chandi rate in Pakistan (PKR) and the silver rate in India (INR) are both derived from the same international XAG/USD spot price shown above — converted to rupees at the live exchange rate, then divided to per-gram, per-tola and per-kg values. A 1 kg silver price, a 500 gram chandi price, or a 1 tola chandi rate all move together with the global spot. The silver price today in India is typically quoted per kg for bullion and per 10 grams for retail; the silver price per kg in INR equals the live XAG/USD rate × 32.1507 × the USD-INR exchange rate. See the live per-country table above for the current silver rate in Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and 100+ other markets, updated every 60 seconds.

Why retail silver prices differ from spot

The figures on this page are pure metal value at international parity. Actual retail silver rates sit above spot because of local taxes (GST, VAT, sales tax), dealer margins, and — for jewellery and coins — making charges and premiums. Silver premiums are proportionally higher than gold because the fabrication cost is a larger share of the low metal value. Always confirm the live rate with a reputable local bullion dealer before any transaction.
